Celtic Spirituality~Shamanism   Leave a comment

Very well written piece

The purpose of these practices is to develop
the ability to perceive and communicate with
spirits of nature and the Divine.

Those familiar with Native American spirituality will find many similarities in the Celtic way, for it is grounded in honoring the Earth, Ancestors and the Spirits of the Land. For the Celts, life sprang from the Earth and was inseparable from her. Fertility of the land and abundance of game and harvest determined the prosperity of the people. In addition, spiritual connection to the land gave meaning and belonging to people. The spirits of one’s home and landscape were honored in all ceremonies and called upon for blessing, protection and power. Their presence would guide the ceremony and increase the power and energy.

Honoring the Ancestors
Ancestors were revered in Celtic world as evidenced by the extensive genealogies kept by the bards. As with one’s connection to the land…

Nettle and Ginger Update   4 comments

Now I know that you have all been waiting with baited breath for this, (ohh, be still my beating heart) and now here it is, (drum Roll please).

It works, yes it surprised the hell out of me to, because there is something I neglected to mention at the start. I did it with the same devolution as most people will use, none. No asking the plants, no asking Airmid, Goddess of Herbs, Brid, Goddess of the Land or Danu, Mother Creator. But it is not that strong, it takes away the pain, for the most part, and it works well with my Rosemary Oil, which I made, but the swelling has not gone down much. So not much AI, but not bad AG.

And for you money makers who were following the original post, If you try to patent it, I will be very, very , very angry with you. If you want to make it to sell, go for it, but if it is too expensive, the poor will not be able to buy it, so you can make a small donation to WSPA, WWF, Cat Protection, et. Al., keep the cost down and the poor can buy it, then well done to you. I may not be watching, but your Kai will be.

I will, of course be making a big batch, but doing it properly with full reverence to all. And then mix it with my Rosemary oil as a one hit oil.

Is Paganism the Fastest Growing Religion in the United States?   13 comments

Yet another great post from MG, and ’tis something you should really think about, especially the coming out bit.

CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS

Don’t bust out the mead yet! Pagans are still a very small minority in comparison to both U.S Religions and World Religions at large. If you read the 2008 “United States Census Bureau Abstract on Self Identified Religious Populations”, the number of Pagans and Wiccans combined still only results to 0.3% of the population (which means that 3 out of every 1,000 people you meet will be Pagan). However, that number doesn’t account for people who classify as spiritualists, Unitarian Universalists or non-classified.

I do often bump into people at Pagan meets or New Age shops who do not like to call themselves “Pagans,” but rather “Animists,” “Druids,” “Asatruar,” “Heathens,” “Shamans,” etc. The war over what gets lumped into the pagan category and what doesn’t wages on, but I bet many of these folk filled in…

This could be the start, we shall see in time what the other Religious Leaders do and say, and what the markets say.

Time for a new brolly methinks.

How to Talk to Depressed People   Leave a comment

Read it and then you may understand someone else.

  Rogue Priest

This is an excerpt from Hyberbole and a Half’s illustrated guide to depression.

The beginning of my depression had been nothing but feelings, so the emotional deadening that followed was a welcome relief.  I had always wanted to not give a fuck about anything. I viewed feelings as a weakness — annoying obstacles on my quest for total power over myself. And I finally didn’t have to feel them anymore.

But my experiences slowly flattened and blended together until it became obvious that there’s a huge difference between not giving a fuck and not being able to give a fuck.

[…]

But people want to help. So they try harder to make you feel hopeful and positive about the situation. You explain it again, hoping they’ll try a less hope-centric approach, but re-explaining your total inability to experience joy inevitably sounds kind of negative; like maybe you WANT to be depressed. The…
